Press Release on the Meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi

On January 28, during his official visit to the People’s Republic of China, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi.

During the meeting, the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral and multilateral relations between Azerbaijan and China, as well as regional and international issues, were discussed.

The Ministers noted with satisfaction that the political dialogue between the two countries is at a high level, and that the establishment of comprehensive strategic partnership relations in 2025 has elevated bilateral relations to a qualitatively new stage. It was emphasized that the numerous agreements signed during the state visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to China in April of last year have given additional impetus to cooperation in a number of areas. The Ministers also recalled with satisfaction that the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries will be marked in 2027.

The Ministers underscored the importance of further expanding cooperation based on mutual trust and respect in the fields of trade and the economy, transport and logistics, energy, renewable energy, industry, digital transformation, agriculture, humanitarian affairs, and education. Joint cooperation within the framework of work carried out along the Middle Corridor and the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route was commended.

During the meeting, the two sides had in-depth exchanges on the importance of continued mutual support within international organizations, which was emphasized, and on regional security issues. Cooperation within the United Nations, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), the Non-Aligned Movement, and other multilateral formats was reviewed.

The parties also noted that strengthening people-to-people ties and expanding exchanges in education, culture, tourism, and youth are important to the sustainable development of bilateral relations.

During the meeting, global and regional security issues, as well as plans for cooperation within the Central Asia format, were reviewed. The Azerbaijani side also informed the Chinese side of post-conflict reconstruction efforts and the threat posed by mines, and expressed gratitude for the Chinese side's support for ANAMA's demining activities.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
