An event dedicated to September 27 – Remembrance Day was held at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the People’s Republic of China.
An event was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the People’s Republic of China to commemorate September 27, Remembrance Day. Representatives of the Chinese public, Azerbaijanis living and studying in China, and the military attachés of Türkiye and Pakistan in Beijing attended the ceremony. At the event, flower bouquets were first laid before the “Khari Bulbul” bas-relief on the embassy grounds, followed by a minute of silence in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Ambassador Bunyad Huseynov, highlighting the profound significance of Remembrance Day for our nation, stated that this date marked the beginning of the path to Victory. On September 27, 2020, in response to the large-scale attack by Armenian armed forces, Azerbaijan, under the directive of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Ilham Aliyev, exercised its right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and launched counter-offensive operations to protect its territory and civilian population. The victory achieved in the 44-day Patriotic War resulted in Azerbaijan liberating its territories, which had been under Armenian occupation for nearly 30 years. All our soldiers and officers who fought valiantly in the Patriotic War demonstrated true heroism. Our victory was attained through the blood and lives of our heroic soldiers and officers, our martyrs who will live forever in our memory, and our veterans. This was not only Azerbaijan’s military victory but also the restoration of historical justice and the enforcement of international law in the South Caucasus region. This glorious history, written under the wise leadership of the Victorious Supreme Commander Ilham Aliyev, the unity of our people, and the bravery of our army, serves as a solid foundation for Azerbaijan’s future development and prosperity and for ensuring lasting peace, stability, and security in the region.
The Ambassador also spoke about the restoration and reconstruction work carried out in the liberated territories, emphasizing that the “Great Return” program is being rapidly implemented to ensure the dignified return of former internally displaced persons to their ancestral lands.
Teifur Rustamov, Azerbaijan’s military attaché in China and a participant in the Patriotic War, stated that the 44-day war embodied the unity, heroism, and fighting spirit of our people. He noted that, under the leadership of the Victorious Supreme Commander, the valiant Armed Forces of Azerbaijan liberated Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Zangilan, Gubadli, Khojavend, Sugovushan, and, finally, the crown of Karabakh—the city of Shusha—from occupation. The military attaché emphasized that, thanks to the blood and lives of our brave officers and soldiers, the glorious flag of Azerbaijan once again flies over our native lands. This victory also represents the restoration of great historical justice and the rise of our people’s national spirit.
