An event dedicated to September 27 – Remembrance Day was held at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the People’s Republic of China.
On September 29, 2025, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in China held a Remembrance Day commemoration ceremony. Representatives of the Chinese public, Azerbaijanis living and studying in the country, and the military attachés of Türkiye and Pakistan in Beijing attended the event. The ceremony began with the laying of flower bouquets in front of the “Khari Bulbul” bas-relief on the embassy premises, followed by a moment of silence in honor of those who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Ambassador Bunyad Huseynov spoke about the great significance of Remembrance Day for the Azerbaijani people, noting that this date marks the beginning of the path to Victory. He stated that on September 27, 2020, in response to the large-scale military offensive launched by the Armenian armed forces, and based on the order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan exercised its right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and launched counter-offensive operations to protect its territory and civilian population. As a result, Azerbaijan liberated its territories that had been under Armenian occupation for nearly 30 years.
The ambassador emphasized that all Azerbaijani soldiers and officers who fought bravely in the Patriotic War demonstrated true heroism. He added that the Victory was achieved thanks to the blood and sacrifice of our heroic servicemen, our martyrs who will forever live in our hearts, and our veterans. “This was not only Azerbaijan’s military victory, but also the restoration of historical justice and the upholding of international law in the South Caucasus region. The history written by our victorious army constitutes a solid foundation for Azerbaijan’s future development and prosperity, as well as for ensuring lasting peace, stability, and security in the region,” Ambassador Huseynov said. He also spoke about the ongoing reconstruction and restoration efforts in the liberated territories, noting that the “Great Return” program is being rapidly implemented to ensure the dignified return of former internally displaced persons to their native lands.
Teyfur Rustamov, a participant of the Patriotic War and Azerbaijan’s military attaché in China, stated that the 44-day war embodied the unity, heroism, and determination of the Azerbaijani people. He noted that under the leadership of the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the valiant Azerbaijani Armed Forces liberated the cities of Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Zangilan, Gubadli, Khojavend, Suqovushan, and, finally, the crown of Karabakh – the city of Shusha, raising the glorious Azerbaijani flag once again on our native lands thanks to the courage and sacrifice of our brave officers and soldiers. The military attaché stressed that this Victory also represented the restoration of great historical justice and the strengthening of the national spirit of the Azerbaijani people. He emphasized that the most important duty entrusted to us is to honor and uphold the memory of our martyrs.
