Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova Attended the Boao Forum for Asia
Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova visited the People’s Republic of China to participate in the Boao Forum for Asia. During the visit, the Speaker delivered a speech at the Annual Conference of the Boao Forum for Asia and also held talks with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China.
Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, Zhao Leji, noted that the participation of the Speaker of the Milli Majlis in the Boao Forum for Asia reflects Azerbaijan’s commitment to bilateral relations and support for the Forum. He emphasized that, in recent years, under the wise leadership of the heads of state of both countries, bilateral relations have been elevated to a strategic partnership. Last year, the leaders of Azerbaijan and China held two meetings. The National People’s Congress of China supports the efforts of the heads of state and stands ready to work with the Azerbaijani Parliament to further enrich bilateral ties and open new dimensions of cooperation. He also expressed sincere gratitude to Azerbaijan for its assistance in the evacuation of Chinese citizens from Iran.
For her part, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova underscored that mutual respect and trust between the heads of state are crucial to advancing the bilateral partnership. She highlighted that during President Ilham Aliyev’s 2025 state visit to China, a document establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries was signed. Further expansion of inter-parliamentary relations and increased mutual visits contribute positively to overall cooperation. Azerbaijan consistently supports the One-China policy, while China, in turn, has always supported Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. She also noted the successful implementation of joint cultural projects, particularly the strong cooperation between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
