28 years have passed since the restoration of Azerbaijan's state independence

October 18 is the Day of State Independence of Azerbaijan.

28 years ago, the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted the Constitutional Act on State Independence.  An extraordinary session, which began on October 8, deliberated for a week, although it had been discussing the issue for four days.  Finally, on October 18, 1991, the Supreme Soviet session adopted a historical document.

In the first years of independence, the people of Azerbaijan, who lived in their difficult times, were able to achieve their future, demonstrating their determination.  In 1993, at the request of the people, the great leader Heydar Aliyev, who returned to power for the second time in Azerbaijan, made the independence of our country eternal and irreversible.  Although the Constitutional Act on State Independence was passed on October 18, 1991, Azerbaijan actually gained its independence after the return of national leader Heydar Aliyev to power.  It is precisely the rich political experience of the National Leader, his high management skills and his unwavering love for his homeland saved Azerbaijan's independence from danger.  The Great Leader eliminated chaos and anarchy in the country, the economic, political and moral psychological tension prevailing in society.  The independent Republic of Azerbaijan has taken a new line of development on solid foundations.  The nation-wide leader, Heydar Aliyev, who has declared Azerbaijan the successor of the first democratic republic in the Muslim East, has begun a gigantic state building with the logic that it is more difficult to maintain its independence.  As a result of the tireless efforts of the Great Leader, in a short time, the voice of Azerbaijan came from the chair of the most influential international organizations.  Expressing great pride in the fact that independence is a blessing and plays a very important role in the history of the nation, Heydar Aliyev has made Azerbaijan's independence eternal and irreversible.  And true independence is the full possession of their wealth.  On September 20, 1994, a huge oil contract - the Contract of the Century, signed by Heydar Aliyev - was signed.  Thus, for the first time, Azerbaijan acted as the owner of its wealth.  Participation of the world's leading companies in this contract increased the importance and authority of our country in the region.  Azerbaijan has joined major regional projects, Europe and the world energy security system in general.  Since 1993, the efforts made to strengthen the country's independence and the purposeful steps taken have been the most reliable basis for today's success in Azerbaijan.  In short, if the independence of Azerbaijan was an event of historical necessity, the eternity and irrevocability of this independence are connected with the name of national leader Heydar Aliyev.

His tireless efforts to preserve and strengthen our independence continue today by his worthy successor, President Ilham Aliyev.  Based on the results of the multidisciplinary activities of the National Leader, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan has made significant progress in political, economic, social and military spheres.  Azerbaijan has become a country capable of influencing the course of strategic, political and economic processes taking place in the region where it is located.  Azerbaijan uses its political and economic power, its strategic position, its rich natural resources in ensuring its foreign policy priorities.  Mutually beneficial cooperation is carried out with most members of the international community in accordance with national interests.  As a result of the successful development strategy implemented by the head of our state, the country's economy is ranked high in the world for its rapid growth.

Thus, our independence, preserved by the great leader Heydar Aliyev, is further strengthened today under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, and his perpetuity is ensured.  All this gives us a reason to reiterate that Azerbaijan's independence is eternal and irreversible.
